Mark Bradstock is keen to point Coneygree at the £1million bonus put up by Jockey Club Racecourses if the 2015 Gold Cup winner makes a successful return to action in the Betfair Chase at Haydock on Saturday. The Letcombe Bassett trainer welcomed the media into his boutique yard on Monday and stated he would look stupid if he swerved the challenge to go for the King George VI Chase followed by the Gold Cup should his charge strike on Merseyside this weekend. With riding arrangements for that Grade One contest still up in the air, Bradstock emphasised Coneygree has done plenty of work on the all-weather at home as well as a much-needed workout on turf in a recent visit to Haydock with two stablemates. Its wonderful to have him back, and hopefully he can build and build and build, said the trainer.I imagine he will go off in front and any softening in conditions will be a help rather than a hindrance. He never looks impressive in his work here, but he has this extraordinarily deceptive gallop that we saw to best effect when he annihilated some decent handicappers in the Denman Chase at Newbury.Bradstock and his wife Sara hope that whoever rides Coneygree at Haydock will school the gelding beforehand. With Nico de Boinville sidelined by injury, Richard Johnson is Bradstocks first choice.Hell ride him if hes available and were just waiting to hear, said Bradstock. When we get the nod, hell come in and give him a jump. The problem for the Bradstocks is the entry given on Monday to Garde La Victoire for the Shawbrook Handicap Chase at Ascot on the same day.I know theres a big race at Ascot which I havent seen the entries for, but fingers crossed hell come, the trainer said.Aidan Coleman would be the next option and if he cant take the ride we would be scratching our heads.A second alternative option is the entry given to Menorah in the Betfair Chase, but the wet weather forecast seems likely to deter connections from taking that option. Its going to be wet this week and Id be reasonably confident wed be racing on proper soft ground on Saturday, said Haydock clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright.Looking at the bonus, Bradstock went on: If we win on Saturday we shall certainly aim him towards Kempton, as that bonus is not to be sniffed at. In fact, we would be mad not to go for it.We took him to Haydock for a proper gallop over two miles with a young horse and then old Carruthers jumped in for the last three to four furlongs. Its been so dry with us that it was his first work on grass since he came back in.Hes only run 11 times in his life and has only been beaten twice. Furthermore, he does tend to go well fresh from a break, as he showed when winning at Uttoxeter in successive seasons.Hopefully after Saturday it will be the King George, followed by the Denman Chase and then the Gold Cup. There is also the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham, but it comes closer to Kempton than Newbury.A final assessment of the Betfair Chase and the task faced by Coneygree is that the Gold Cup winner is pretty much match-fit after a satisfying journey back from the hock injury that put him on the sidelines after his comeback triumph at Sandown last season.Bradstock concluded: He had a lot of recuperation standing in his box and then progressed to being ridden out, trotting and galloping. Hes enjoyed a good, hardcore preparation.Coneygree was one of 10 horses to stand their ground for the Haydock showpiece at the five-day stage.Colin Tizzard can do little wrong this season, but his star Cue Card suffered a surprise reverse when only third in last months Charlie Hall at Wetherby. He will attempt to win the race for the third time after coasting to victory 12 months ago and scoring in 2013, but he will meet his Wetherby conqueror Irish Cavalier once again, although they will race off level weights this time.Seeyouatmidnight looked impressive in beating Bristol De Mai at Carlisle last month and represents Scottish handler Sandy Thomson.Paul Nicholls has reduced his team to just dual winner Silviniaco Conti, but he was no match for Valseur Lido on his return.Gods Own could step up in trip for Tom George after finishing well in the Old Roan, while Menorah could take his chance for Philip Hobbs.Gordon Elliott has the choice of Outlander or Roi Des Francs and there is also the possibility of Vezelay coming from France.Start a free one month trial of Racing UK and watch EVERY RACE LIVE in stunning HD from over 40 meetings. Stung by a critical special teams turnover, hurt on defense by a couple of long gains and unable to overcome a depleted offensive line or costly penalties while they had the ball, the Vikings lost 17-15 to the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night. They fought to the bitter end, and I know coach Zimmer wouldve been very, very proud of them, Priefer said.Zimmer was diagnosed with a detached retina, missing a game for the first time in his 23-year NFL coaching career. He visited the players at the hotel earlier in the day and delivered an emotional address during which he expressed his disappointment in not being able to join them at the stadium. We love that man. He puts his heart and soul in this team, and we give it right back to him. I think this team handled it very well, defensive end Brian Robison said. I think we put everything we had on the line. At the end of the day, weve got to find a way to get it done, and we just didnt. Each time the television cameras captured Priefer on the sideline, peering out at the field with the official headset on, the sight was jarring. Not because Priefer didnt look the part, a fit former Navy helicopter pilot with a take-charge personality, but because Zimmers steely gaze has become such a fixture in just three years with the Vikings (6-6) while a defensive-driven team has taken on some of his defiant attitude and mirrored his ability to overcome adversity. What also showed up on this prime-time stage was the keen sense of preparation and sound game-day process that Zimmer has helped create in Minnesota.Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur (Cleveland, 2011-12) and offensive line coach Tony Sparano (Miami, 2008-11) each have prior experience as an NFL head coach, but they remained in their roles to minimize the disruption.Zimmer is the play-caller for the defense, considered one of the savviest in the league, but defensive coordinator George EEdwards in his first time on full duty contributed to one of the best performances of the season for the group on that side of the ball.dddddddddddd The potent Cowboys (11-1) were limited to season lows in points, first downs and yards, all well under their averages.Late in the fourth quarter, Priefer successfully challenged a spot on a first-down slide by Dak Prescott that saved the Vikings a timeout and kept the Cowboys in a third-and-1 situation. The next snap was fumbled, and the 3-yard loss forced the Cowboys to punt. Priefer credited the assistant coaches in the box above the field for watching the replay and encouraging him to throw the red flag. The way the game flowed, Priefer didnt face any more critical decisions than that, but his most fateful choice was a personnel move with standout punt returner Marcus Sherels missing because of a rib injury.Adam Thielen took the first one, was replaced by Cordarrelle Patterson and then returned to the role. Thielens fumble at the 8-yard line early in the fourth quarter set up a touchdown for the Cowboys. Patterson was out for the last one and had to recover his own fumble. Priefer blamed himself for not preparing either of them well enough for the job this week.If Zimmer isnt ready for the next game at Jacksonville, Priefer probably will stay in place.I hope Im not needed in that capacity, he said. Looks to me Ive got my work cut out for me on special teams.Priefer, who is in his sixth season with Minnesota, has presided over some of the best special teams units in the NFL since joining the Vikings. A coach for 23 years who has been in the NFL for 15 seasons, Priefer interviewed with Chicago in 2013 for the head coach position that was filled then by Marc Trestman. One year later, former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe posted a scathing essay on Deadspin.com accusing Priefer of making anti-gay comments toward Kluwe while he was still on the team as a way of goading him for his gay rights advocacy. Priefer was eventually suspended for the first three games of the 2014 season and sent to workplace sensitivity training.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
