TEMPE, Ariz. -- Scottsdale police recommended to the city prosecutors office that assault and disorderly conduct charges be brought against veteran Arizona Cardinals safety Chris Clemons following a May 8 incident outside a Scottsdale nightclub. The recommendation was made two weeks ago.According to a police report, Clemons allegedly assaulted a woman outside of International, a nightclub in the Old Town area of Scottsdale. The victim was knocked out for 20 to 30 seconds by a punch to the face after an altercation in a parking lot near the club, according to the report. The victim, whose name was redacted in the report, told police that Clemons punched her with a closed fist, which caused her to bleed from her nose and mouth, fall and hit her head.Clemons, who police said was visibly intoxicated and slurring his speech, was interviewed by a detective and denied hitting the victim, according to the report.Clemons, 30, was briefly detained after the incident but was released by police, who later searched the area for him but couldnt locate him, according to the report. One witness interviewed by police said he saw Clemons hit the woman. Other witnesses interviewed by police said they did not see who threw the punch. Clemons told police he believed another woman hit the victim.The Cardinals issued a statement saying theyre aware of the investigation.?The team was made aware of this situation and notified the league office in accordance with the NFL Personal Conduct Policy, the statement said. The matter is currently being reviewed both by local law enforcement as well as the league under its Personal Conduct Policy.
